Deforestation of The Amazon
Half of the world's remaining rainforest is the Amazon. Every year, much of the Amazon Rainforest is lost to deforestation. From 1991 to 2004 deforesttion was at its worst, and it has been decreasing ever since 2004. The rainforest is wanted for cattle pastures, housing and farming space, and the valuable hardwoods. Humans are the main cause of deforestation. Animals lose their habitats because of this.
Slash and Burn
A method of clearing the rainforest is "slash and burn". Small areas of land are cleared. Then the vegetation is burned. The leftover ash has nutrients in it.
